What is the Charitable Trust?
The BACTA Charitable Trust was formed in 1990 and raises and distributes funds for good causes as defined by its Trust Deed, and on behalf of its sister organisation BACTA.
The Charitable Trust appoints one long term charity to work with for 2-3 years which is currently Macmillan Cancer Support, which provides advice and support for people living with cancer, their families and carers. Our previous partnership was with BIBIC (British Institute for Brain Injured Children). The charity helps children with disabilities such as autism and Aspergers Syndrome and is a very worthwile cause.

BACTA's previous 3 year partnership was with the RNID (Royal National Institute for the Deaf) which supports 9 million deaf and hard of hearing people in the UK. Between 2001-2003 BACTA members raised an impressive £212,626!
If you are a charity that would like to apply for funding from BACTA please contact Linda Malcolm on lindam@bacta.org.uk or 020 7726 9826.
How does the Charitable Trust operate?
The Trust will:
a) Provide significant longer term support (ususally 2 to 3 years) to a specific project or charity
b) Make one-off donations to worthy causes. Unfortunately, in the current economic climate we are unable to support applications from individuals. Where possible, the Trust will purchase items for use by a recipient charity or its benefactors, rather than contribute to its general funds
c) Encourage the BACTA regions to raise funds for local charities in partnership with the Trust. The Trust will seek to match the funds raised and assist with achieving local publicity
d) Maximise publicity, including, where appropriate, contacts with opinion formers, for its work in order to provide a positive counter to the prevalent negative images surrounding the industry. In particular, to demonstrate a professional industry with a caring attitude to society
e) Increase its fund-raising efforts through BACTA's social committee and through its own projects whilst maintaining high profile publicity for its work
How can I receive funding from the BACTA Charitable Trust?
As a BACTA member, you can apply to receive funding for your charitable fundraiser by writing a letter to the BACTA Charitable Trust on headed notepaper. The trust will then seek to match any funds raised and it is requested that you submit your application pre-event.
Each BACTA region is responsible for its own fundraising and controls its own activities and which charities benefit from the raised funds. Please contact Linda Malcom on lindam@bacta.org.uk for more details.
